Maid of Honor Speech….?

I am the maid of honor for my brother and his fiance’s wedding that is on August 16th. I have been dreading giving a speech because I do not do well speaking in front of large crowds. I also have no idea what to say. Does anybody have any good advice, or a website that will have examples of other maid of honor speeches that people have given so I can have some sort of a template? Please help…I really want them to know I put time into it

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. It is an honor to be here tonight to toast bride as she takes another step in life’s journey and joins groom in holy matrimony. I have had the pleasure of working with bride at ****** for several years and in that time, we have developed an uncanny ability to know what the other is thinking to the point of sometimes scaring people . However bride, I still have some unexpected surprises for even you!

I was over at bride and groom last week and asked bride if she had everything in place or needed anything done. As usual, she had everything under control. However, I asked her if she was planning to do the something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue tradition and she said they weren’t going to bother with that. At the time, I didn’t think too much of it, but as the days passed, I began to realize every bride needs a little something old, new, borrowed and blue on their special day. So bride, here we have it!

For something old, I have found a book of inspirational quotes on love, some dating back decades and maybe even centuries, for those days when you need a little reminder of just how much you love each other. I would like to read a favorite one of mine though that I have written in the back for you by my 91 year old grandma. “Sing and pray together and you will stay together” I have always loved this one as no matter the sound that comes out, only the one you truly love will think it the loveliest sound on earth.

For something new, I thought a bottle of Saskatoon Berry Sparkling cider was fitting for you to toast your new family whether it be on a one week, one month or even one year anniversary.

The something borrowed you have already – the knife set to cut your cake. It comes with a special wish from the person who lent it to you. “May your marriage be as sweet as the cake you cut. Bless you on your special day and always remember the love you have for each other”!

Something blue was a bit trickier. What could be fitting for such a day? And then it hit me walking through ******* – blue whales. What day is complete without a little candy! And in the event you don’t want to share with groom, son, daughter and son, we have a bag just for you guys too.

The most significant thing I noticed though when I was at bride and groom last week was the special bond they have and the jovial sense that radiates from them when they are together. They know how to laugh together, even when the situation probably doesn’t seem the funniest, and they know how to make each other laugh when they know the other needs it the most!

May you continue to laugh together, share together, love together, be a family together and remember – being deeply loved by someone gives you strength; loving someone deeply give you courage! Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in a toast to two happy and wonderful people bride and groom!

This was the speech I wrote for my friend for her wedding last year. Short and not a traditional speech but worked for the situation. Please don’t get up and cry how your friend has been with you through this trauma and that trauma (if that is the case). Keep it light make it funny, and to get over nerves, read it OFTEN and in front of a friend or two!! Good luck and best wishes. I hope this helps a bit!

So I am 14, and my dad is getting married in October. Because my dad has previously been married, I am the maid of honor and my brother is the best man. I know that most maid of honors make speeches, but I was wondering if I should? Also, does anyone have any ideas on what to write or how to write one?

Yes I think you should.
Make a joke about you knowing the bride for almost as long as the groom has.
Tell people how happy your dad has been since meeting her.
and that you look forward to all the shopping trips with your new step mom.
Wish both of them many years of happiness and joy. (Keep luck out of it)
Then turn to the bride and thanks her for asking you to be her maid of honor, and as such if she ever needs a friend she can always call on you. When you are done, say "now lets get this party started!"

The bride is my sister. We are very good friends. She is older than me. I dated her ex and now were engaged. shes pregnant.

i dont even know how to go about making a toast because they arent having alcohol or glasses.

Just say what a wonderful sister she is and has been and that you are pleased that she has found a lovely man to share her life with.

Tell some funny stories about her when she was little and slip in comments about her changing … or not etc.

As they are not having alcohol have a simple grape juice or their favourite soft drink to toast them with. As for no glasses, ask the Reception place to have a supply of glasses on stand ready for the toast.

In my maid of honor speech am I suppose to speaking to the audience or the bride and groom? I’ve seen speeches both ways. Which is more traditional/proper?

I think a little bit of both is nice. Tell the bride and groom how much they mean to you, but tell funny stories etc to the crowd. Easy enough, and now you don’t have to pick

Ok my best friend that i’ve known since 7th grade is finally, after an 8 year engagement going to marry the man that i introduced her to in High School.She wants the maid of honor (me) aswell as the best man to make a speech…I’m terrible at writing…so i need suggestions and a basic outline of a good wedding speech..I intend on adding some things from my heart …so does anyone know where i can see samples of maid of honor speeches…or some beautiful heart felt poetry that i could throw in?? any advice or samples of speeches would really help me

Talk about how you have seen her with other guys and as long as you’ve known her, you have never known her to be as happy as she is with him. They just fit, like pieces of a puzzle. It doesn’t seem like two random strangers thrown together, but instead, two people who were made for each other, finally finding each other after years of looking for each other. You could never imagine them being apart, and you know you will never have to see that happen.
