Length of Maid of Honor speech/toast and ideas?
July 13, 2010
How long should my speech be? My friend’s getting married in 2 weeks (I wasn’t originally the MOH, but she ended up bowing out due to medical reasons, so I’m now charged with that role). And am I supposed to do a speech at both the rehersal dinner and wedding? Pointers on what to talk about? I’ve never even attended a wedding before!
Keep your speech to 3-5 minutes. It’s more than enough time to say a lot, and it will go by quicker than you expect.
For a wedding speech, draw something from the past, the present and for the future. An amusing or personal story (that’s not embarrassing for the bride or groom) is always fitting. Also, talk about what you invision for the couple in the next few years.
Don’t wing it! Be prepared and know what you’re going to say. Inexperienced speakers who talk "off the cuff" usually talk too long and/or put a foot in their mouth. What’s worse: It’s all caught on videotape and playback!!
DO NOT READ YOUR SPEECH. Use an index card to jot down a few key words or phrases. It will also make you look more confident and well prepared.
Practice speaking slowly and with pauses. Your adrenalin will naturally make you want to speak faster, but by speaking slowly you will give yourself time to collect your thoughts, and you will give your audience time to digest what you’re saying.
Make eye contact with the newlyweds and/or your audience. By doing so, you personalize your speech and draw people’s attention to you.
BE UPBEAT AND HAVE FUN! People will remember your energy, passion and sincerity more than your content.
Congratulations on such an honor. You’ll do well!

I need help writing my maid of honor speech/toast for my sister’s wedding?
July 10, 2010
The wedding date is July 1st…and I am still drawing a blank. I need help coming up with a good, funny, wedding centered quote or two to use. Not to mention the actual toast…
Any tips??? Please keep in mind that there will be a few highly religious people attending, so I don’t want to offend them with something gross.
Check out http://www.theknot.com. They have tons of articles and suggestions on everyone’s speeches. I’m sure you’ll find something in there.

Would you please help me iron out my maid of honor toast?
July 7, 2010
Hi everyone, I’m Megan and I’m Rachel’s best friend.
Rachel and I have been best friends for almost 10 years now.
When Jake and Rachel were newly engaged, I wrote Jake a very long letter detailing all the things I was going to have done to him if he hurt my best friend.
I’m only kidding. I did write Jake a letter, and it WAS very long, but it was more to make sure Jake knew how lucky he was to have someone like Rachel in his life forever. Some of you might not know her very well, but I think whether you’ve known Rachel for 10 years or 10 minutes, you know that you’ve met someone really special. I told Jake in the letter that if they ever move, Rachel will keep scissors, toilet paper, and pens in a box on top, because those are the things you always need first and nobody ever has. I told him that Rachel will always remember to schedule his teeth cleanings, she’ll always remember picture day at school, and she’ll never be out of ziploc baggies. She’s just special, and she’s the kind of
person everyone wants in their life. I know that I can’t imagine my life without her in it.
Over the last few months, as I’ve gotten to know Jake, I’ve come to believe that he’s a pretty special guy himself, and I’m so glad that he and my best friend found each other.
Would everyone please raise their glasses to the bride and groom?
Rachel & Jake, I love you both and I feel so blessed to be a part of your special day.
I wish you a ridiculous amount of blessings, and all the happiness you can stand.
To the bride and groom.
that sounds perfect! the only thing i would add would be a special memory of you both after you tell everyone how long you’ve been friends. the kind of thing that u think about whenever u don’t see your friend for a while and ur missing her. the thing that u know u’ll tell ur kids about sometime..
goodluck to yourself and to the bride and groom.
Funny Wedding Toast from the Maids of Honor | maid of honor toast
July 5, 2010
The wedding of Matt and Emily Iazzetti, April 17, 2010.
Grace and Gloria, the bride’s sisters and maids of honor, sang a beautiful wedding toast to the tune of “Beauty and the Beast.”
Lyrics:
Now it’s wedding time
for Matt and Emily
they make our hearts warm
together we all form
one big family
Husband old as time
young as bride can be
first they read the news
now they say “I do’s”
Matt and Emily
All the family trips
all the Volvo rides
playing yo-yo toaster
now we toast to her
our beautiful sweet bride
more than siblings friends
the fun here it won’t end
we’re just adding one
new brother and new son
our new best friend Matt
(something something Matt)
He’s a Baylor grad
she went to Mizzou
then they fell in love
fit just like a glove
now she’s a Bear too
him she does adore
he loves her even more
Matt and Emily

Maid of honor toast?
July 5, 2010
Can anyone give me ideas to help with my toast at my best friends wedding. Im not good at this kind of stuff.
I’m not good at this sort of thing either, but I can tell you what I did for my best friend when I was her maid of honor – maybe it will spark an idea for you.
I had no idea what to write or where to begin. Then, I remembered a game we used to play when we were kids in theatre camp. One of us would start the conversation and started it with the letter "A." Then the other one would have to respond, but start our sentence with the letter "B," and we’d go back and forth as best we could until we got through the whole alphabet.
So, when I wrote my speech, I started the first line with the letter "A," and wrote a 26 line speech all the way to "Z" – explaining towards the end how the speech was written. When I got to that point, you could really see how affected she was by it. Granted, there were some run-on sentences and/or sentence fragments just to make it work – but it made it sound more like regular talking than something super prepared and polished.
The things I talked about in the speech were how we met, adventures we had together, remembering when we talked about our wedding days when we were girls and didn’t even have boyfriends, I made sure to say some nice things about her husband (even though I didn’t really know him and had only met him one other time).
I had a lot of people come up to me and told me it was the best maid of honor speech they had ever heard, that they were really touched by it, that it made them cry, that it was beautiful, etc. Really nice things, that shocked me, because I had no clue what I was doing and took a chance on something a little goofy.
I think the challenge of doing the alphabet thing actually helped me focus and have a goal when writing it.
I did have to say "Xylophones are cool!" – lol , but right after that, I explained the game – starting with, "You see, this speech was written…" and explained it from there.
Maybe find something in your history with your friend to spark a creative way to write your speech.
